about

This is a track that I wrote with Matt Eckholm, local film maker and writer/director of the movie Izzie Midnight.

He doesn't write songs too often, but he gave me a hand on this one and then turned around and made an awesome music video for it that you can see here: youtu.be/tGtYIPUb2Yc

lyrics

It barely makes a sound
The echo of an action as I follow you downtown
The moment loses traction
I get carried away
You always said that I seemed different

But there's an essence strung about the place that only I can feel
The city air comes rushing in, another mood to kill
When I see you, I see you smile without me.

It figures I would find you here
Disciples of the crown tell you everything you tell them to
And don't let you touch ground.
But whittled down below my breath there's venom in my teeth
You're salted earth of fleeting worth and falling from your keep.

Trace my finger on the table but I never break my gaze
If you could feel a thing at all then looks could kill today
When I see you, I see you without me.

You want to believe it's true
But without me then there's hardly any you
There once were words to say
That I could use to take your simple heart away.

Flirting with abandon of an evening in decline
Stagnant drink in hand, you catch somebody's eye
It's no party trick you're good at this, he probably thinks it's true
Still a thirteenth floor apartment's just a coffin with a view

Cradled out above the street, a theatre in your mind
Harmony in distance from reality is fine
When you're you, then you'll feign a smile
Yes you, you will learn to fake a smile
You will learn to be without me.

John Kargol Minnesota

John Kargol is a singer-songwriter/multi-instrumentalist in St. Paul, Minnesota, and his folky but alternative music has been likened to Paul Simon, the Mountain Goats, and Elliott Smith.
Currently performing as a solo act, John's music can run the gambit from soft-fingerpicking-coffee shop ambiance, to jazz influenced Americana, all the way to hard strumming, bar pleasing indie-rock.
